HILLCREST ELEMENTARY SCHOOL - Home of the Huskies
We often refer to April, May and June as one month and as the fastest month of the year. So welcome to AprilMayJune! A great deal happens during this time, and while it’s a time of consolidation and celebration, it’s also important to remember that 30% of the year still remains. There is much learning still to be done.
Hillcrest continues to be very lucky with the supports that keep flowing our way. We have recently secured the support of an Intermediate math support teacher, who is working with some grade 8s to help support getting these students ready for the math program in high school. This is a great opportunity. We will also see the return of Hillcrest’s primary literacy support teacher, who will be at Hillcrest 4 days/week providing intervention for our younger students. Juniors are wrapping up their time with their math coach as well. All of this is Ministry driven and we’re incredibly fortunate to be able to provide all of these supports to enhance learning. You’ve probably also heard about Hillcrest’s Child and Youth Worker who is here on Thursdays to support safety and self- regulation. Rainbows will be starting up April 8th. Man! We’re so lucky to have all that we do.
Extracurriculars at Hillcrest continue to flourish. Basketball is going forward full throttle. The teams have games seemingly every week. Hillcrest has become known as a force to reckon with for athletics! It’s a great time to be a Husky, in the classroom and with sport. Athletics, in all forms, are incredibly valuable to well- being. A shout out goes to the staff who provide these opportunities and an extra thanks goes to the parents for supporting coaches and driving students to their games. Thank you! Good luck to the archery team, who will be participating in the NASP provincial archery tournament at the Keady arena on April 11th. Spectators are welcome. Go Husky’s go!
In an effort to further support athletics, especially with track and field coming up, please ensure that your child has athletic shoes. Crocs are great but not the most supportive for gym. We want to ensure safety for all students. If you require any support with this, please contact the school.
Hillcrest’s second Wicked Wow Wednesday was a hit again. Even though it was rainy and cold, students brought the heat with their beach gear. It felt summery in the school with the tropical shirts, funky sunglasses and great looking sunhats. Hillcrest’s next Wicked Wow Wednesday falls on April 24th and will be, as requested, “Mix and Match Day.” The fan favorite of “Comfie Cozy Day” will be every Monday and will continue to coincide with pizza day. FriYAY Funnies will continue as will Hillcrest Pride Fridays (wear your school gear/school colors). Popcorn Friday will carry on as well. Please remember the Fundsrip fundraiser that is going on all year. It is a gift card fundraiser. Hillcrest is a happening place!
Always working together to be better. Your partners in education,
Sue and Mylene
